What is Ice Floating?

Ice Floating is just what it says, floating amongst the ice on Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon in the 0 degree water. Don’t worry, it’s not cold as the protective suit will keep you warm along with good clothing underneath. You will be dressed in a floatation suit called an “immersion suit” and enjoy floating around the icy lagoon. It’s completely safe as the floatation suits will keep you floating on the water and the guides will be there to make sure all is going well. Floating around the lagoon is very relaxing as you are laying down in the water listening to the sounds of the pure nature around you.

Fjallsárlón is the perfect place!

Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon truly is the perfect place to do ice floating in Iceland. The lagoon is not too big so it freezes over during the high winter season. When the lake freezes over, the icebergs get stuck in the ice and create an amazing backdrop among the glacier edge and the towering mountains. The lake is fed with water from Fjallsjökull glacier, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. These elements have carved out the Fjallsárlón area through the centuries and created this beautiful lagoon. That water then continues down the Fjallsá river. The area is known for offering a more intimate experience with the glacier and mountain ranges over Jökulsárlón. So, when you are relaxing and floating around in the lagoon, you will truly feel embraced by the natural elements and feel the presence of the immense glacier and mountain range.
