Terms & conditions
1. General Provisions
By booking a tour with Fjallsárlón ehf. (hereafter “the Company”), you enter into a binding contract and agree to the following terms and conditions. This contract, and all claims arising from it, shall be governed exclusively by Icelandic law. Any disputes shall be settled in the District Court of Reykjavík.
2. Cancellations, Reschedules, and Refunds
The Company reserves the right to retain a 5% non-refundable administrative fee for all cancellations to cover third-party transaction costs and credit card processing fees.
2.1 Day Tours (Boat Tours, Ice Cave Tours, and Glacier Hikes)
- More than 48 hours’ notice: You are eligible for a 95% refund.
- Less than 48 hours’ notice: All bookings are non-refundable. However, we may, at our sole discretion and subject to availability, offer to reschedule your tour.
- Changes to Bookings: Requests for changes or rescheduling must be submitted via email to [email protected] at least 48 hours before departure. For urgent requests within 24 hours, please contact us by phone at +354 666 8006.
2.2 Overnight Adventure
- 14 days or more notice: You are eligible for a 95% refund.
- Less than 14 days’ notice: All bookings are non-refundable.
3. Weather Conditions and Safety Cancellations
Icelandic weather is highly volatile and all outdoor activities are subject to change.
- The Company reserves the right to alter, delay, or cancel any tour due to weather conditions, ice safety, or other force majeure events to ensure the safety of our guests.
- In the event of a cancellation by the Company prior to departure, guests will be offered a full refund (100%) or the option to reschedule to an alternative time or date.
4. Acknowledgment of Risk and Personal Liability
While the Company prioritizes guest safety, participation in outdoor activities, including the Company tours and activities, carries inherent risks.
- Assumption of Risk: By participating, guests acknowledge the nature of the activity and assume full responsibility for their own safety and actions.
- Limited Liability: The Company cannot be held liable for personal injury, accidents, or incidents resulting from a guest’s own actions, negligence, or factors beyond human control (Force Majeure).
- Personal Property: The Company is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings (including cameras, phones, and clothing) brought on the tour.
5. Health and Physical Requirements
- Disclosure: Guests are required to inform their guide of any pre-existing medical conditions, injuries, or physical limitations prior to the start of the tour.
- Refusal of Service: To ensure safety, guides reserve the right to refuse participation to any guest who is deemed physically unable to complete the tour or who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In such cases, no refund will be issued.
6. Arrival and Late Departures
Guests are responsible for arriving at the designated meeting point (Fjallsárlón Tour Reception) in time before the scheduled departure time. How well in advance guests should arrive at the meeting point depends on which tour/activity the guest is joining.
- Boat tours: 15 minutes.
- Ice Floating: 15 minutes.
- Glacier activities: 30 minutes.
- Overnight Adventure: 30 minutes.
- No-Show Policy: If a guest fails to arrive by the departure time, the booking is considered a “no-show” and is non-refundable.
7. Intellectual Property and Images
The Company reserves the right to use any photographs or videos taken during the tours for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be featured in such materials, please inform your guide at the beginning of the tour.
