I can still vividly recall my first trip to Iceland—it feels as fresh in my mind as if it happened yesterday. It was December 2012, and from the moment I stepped out of the airport, I was completely mesmerized. Snow blanketed the world in every direction, and though the darkness of winter had already settled, the snow’s brightness gave everything an enchanting glow, making the atmosphere almost surreal.

After a few days exploring Reykjavík and soaking in its charm, I set off on a road trip to the south of Iceland. The journey was nothing short of extraordinary. I followed waterfalls, stopping frequently to capture photos and marvel at the untouched beauty of the landscapes. Back then, there were hardly any amenities or developed infrastructure around the main sightseeing spots, which gave each stop an intimate, almost private feel. Every place I visited felt like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. The solitude made the experience even more profound, allowing me to truly connect with Iceland’s rugged yet peaceful wilderness.

Then, I arrived at Fjallsárlón. I hadn’t planned on stopping there—it wasn’t even on my radar. A good friend had recommended it, insisting I take the time to visit, and I’m so glad I did. After a short walk, I began to catch glimpses of something extraordinary. With every step, the colossal Fjallsjökull glacier slowly revealed itself, and soon, the entire lagoon came into view. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen—a frozen masterpiece. The vast lagoon was dotted with massive icebergs, like giant sculptures frozen in time. They seemed to stand still, patiently waiting for spring to release them from their icy prison. The scene was so breathtaking that I couldn’t do anything but stand there in silence, completely alone, soaking in the moment. The solitude was calming, and the peace of that moment felt like a gift.

As I stood there, something unusual caught my eye. On the left side of the mountain, I noticed a distinct heart-shaped formation carved into the glacier. It was as if the wind, over countless years, had sculpted this natural wonder into a message just for those who happened to look closely. To me, it felt like Iceland itself was sending a message to travelers: With love from Iceland.

That moment has stayed with me ever since. It wasn’t just the beauty of Fjallsárlón that captivated me—it was the sense of connection, the quietness of nature, and the unique way Iceland seems to speak to your soul.
