What type of gear is used for ice floating?

We provide our guests with an immersion suit, also known as a survival suit, for the ice floating experience. This is a type of dry suit, meaning you can comfortably wear your own clothes underneath it.

The survival suit is designed with extreme thermal capabilities to keep you warm, even in near 0°C water, and possesses strong buoyancy to ensure you float safely at all times. It is made of neoprene, a material known for its excellent insulating and floating properties.

This protective gear is designed to be easy to put on and is not overly tight, ensuring a comfortable fit. Our specialized protection suits are designed to keep you warm and comfortable. They include integrated protection for your hands and feet, as well as a hood. For enhanced relaxation and support while floating in the water, a pillow is built in behind the head.

A wet suit is no the best option for an ice floating experience as it does not keep you dry and warm.

Can you use a wet suit?

While other water protection gear like wetsuits exist, they are unsuitable for ice floating. A wetsuit, designed for warmer water, will get you wet and doesn’t offer the necessary flotation. A regular drysuit would keep you warmer but also lacks the essential flotation capability. Therefore, for our ice floating tour at Fjallsarlon, we specifically use a survival suit or immersion suit, which provides both warmth and the required flotation.
