Tour description

The tour

Get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey with Fjallsárlón boat tours! Join thousands of thrilled customers who’ve already experienced the magic of the Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon. Our Zodiac boat tour is your ticket to an otherworldly adventure.

Your expert guide will lead you through a stunning, moss-covered landscape to the lagoon, where your boat awaits. Once on the water, you’ll be captivated by a dazzling display of the icebergs. Circle icebergs of all shapes and sizes, and if you’re lucky, you might witness one dramatically flip or turn. Don’t miss the chance to taste ancient ice from the glacier itself!

The journey continues toward Vatnajökull Glacier, Europe’s largest. We’ll get you as close as safely possible to the massive glacier wall. Keep your eyes and ears open, you might see and hear a colossal iceberg calve off the glacier’s edge, crashing into the lagoon before it begins its quiet, slow drift away.

Our professional guides are passionate about this incredible area and are dedicated to providing a personal experience. On our iceberg boat tours, you’ll gain a fascinating insight into the history and nature of the glaciers and icebergs that make Fjallsárlón so special.

Each boat carries up to 12 passengers on board. If your group is larger than 12 people, we simply add more boats to the tour. For example, a group of 36 passengers would go on 3 boats.
The age limit for this tour is 5 years old. If you have an infant younger than 5 years old, we recommend that parents do a separate departure time. There is plenty of time between tours to switch and FROST Restaurant is a great place to sit and relax while your spouse enjoys the tour.

What to bring

For the Classic Boat Tour, we always recommend that you dress according to the weather. During summer days, it can be pretty warm out on the lagoon, but when we get closer to winter time it starts to get cold. Our boats are open air Zodiac boats and you will be sailing on a glacier lagoon. You will receive a thick, warm, floatation jacket that will keep you comfortable as well.

  • Clothing according to weather
  • Waterproof pants
  • Waterproof shoes
  • Sunglasses for sunny days
  • Phone or camera to capture the tour

Keep in mind

Please note that there is an approx. 10 minute walk from the reception area to the boat docking area. This is a scenic walk where you will have a great view over the beautiful Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon and Fjallsjökull glacier. The walk is on gravel so people that have difficulty walking might need assistance.

In certain weather conditions, we may need to reduce the number of people in each boat as a safety measure. In these extreme cases, large groups may need to be divided between boats or between departure times.

The age limit for all boat tours, classic, private and luxury tours is 5 years old.

Difficulty rating is easy, you need to be able to walk on gravel path for approximately 5-7 minutes (each way) to the glacial lagoon and your boat. Also, you need to be able to sit unaided in the boat for 45 minutes.

We recommend that you bring a hat and gloves on our tours. In Iceland, the weather can quite unpredictable so dress accordingly. We also recommend that you bring your camera for those priceless photo opportunities!

The safety of our passengers is a top priority! Our sailors are highly trained and well-prepared to respond to any incidents. Yes, Frost restaurant is located on-site offering tasty food at reasonable prices. Frost is a buffet style bistro that offers hot food and salad bar, soups, coffee, cakes, and snacks. No need to prebook, just show up.

Our tours are a small boat adventure that gives you a rich and personal experience without the crowds. We exclusively sail on zodiacs (small boats), we sail close to icebergs towards the glacier. Fjallsarlon lagoon is simply perfect in size for boat tours. We always sail up to the „glacier wall “as safe as it is to go. The glacier at Fjallsárlón is extremely impressive, we call it the Glacier Giant, as it is massive and steep, you truly understand how small we humans really are. At Jokulsarlon you have a larger amphibian boat option which takes you for a 30-40 min. cruise exploring icebergs and then zodiac boats that sail closer to the glacier, the zodiac tour is longer in duration as the lagoon is bigger and you need to cover more distance on the water. You should also expect a lot more people at Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, as it is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Iceland. We say go to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and take the photo but join our tours for a more personal and private experience.

The difference between tours is that on our Private Boat Tour you have the boat and your guide exclusively for yourself and therefore more flexibility where and how you sail during the tour. Time duration is the same on the Classic Boat Tour.
