At Fjallsarlon parking is free of charge. Few years ago, parking around Iceland was free at most nature reserves and tourist attractions. That has changed in recent years and now parking fees are collected at top sights such as Jokulsarlon Glacier lagoon, our neighboring ice lagoon.
In the years 2016-2017, when our company built the service center, significant improvements were made to the road leading from the ring road to Fjallsárlón. An asphalt road was laid, and a suitable parking area was made. Additionally, walking paths and informative signs were put up to guide travelers, tourists, and nature lovers to the lagoon. The walk from the parking lot to Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon is an easy 5-10 minute walk each way.
With these developments the natural environment at Fjallsárlón has improved and is better equipped to receive visitors without a negative impact on its natural surroundings.
Winter brings its own set of challenges in Southeast Iceland, often we see heavy snowfall and blizzards. However, our company is committed to ensuring accessibility to the lagoon, Frost restaurant and our facilities during the winter season. Our team uses heavy machines to clear snow from the main road leading to Fjallsárlón service center and the parking lot when needed.
Our presence has therefore significantly eased access to Fjallsárlón all year-round, benefiting both our customers and other visitors.
If you like glacier lagoons we highly recommend putting a stop at Fjallsárlón on your itinerary. The view is breathtaking in any season, during summer watch icebergs float around, in winter marvel at the frozen lagoon and frozen icebergs. Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon is a popular natural gem that photographers flock to all year around to capture the essence of Icelandic nature. So why don’t you take a walk to the lagoon during winter or join one of our boat tours during summer. Experiencing the lagoon from a guided boat tour offers a perspective unlike any other. Additionally, Frost restaurant offers a quick bite on the go or refreshments from coffee and snacks to buffet-style lunch. While parking fees are increasingly common at tourist destinations and nature reserves, Fjallsárlón offers complimentary parking. So why not make a pit stop on your travels?
Rest assured, whether you’re admiring the ice lagoon, embarking on a boat tour or having a meal at Frost, disappointment is not on the menu.
